Il Canto della Caduta

C’est la fin tragique d’un peuple pacifique, vivant en symbiose avec la nature, anéanti par un roi étranger, belliqueux et cruel. Dans un dispositif unique entre ciel et terre, Marta Cuscunà réussit une fusion intrigante entre voix, corps, masques et images, sous le regard d’oiseaux métalliques qui bougent et parlent tels des dieux.

The young Italian director uses a unique device encompassing earth and sky to stage the tragic story of a peace-loving people who lived in harmony with nature but were wiped out by a cruel and belligerent foreign king. The top section features a ‘choir’ of giant crows that the puppeteer manipulates in full view of the audience; the bottom section shows the children, sole survivors of the massacre. The result is an intriguing combination of voices, bodies, masks and images, all watched over by metallic birds that move and speak like gods.

Marta Cuscunà est née à Monfalcone, petite ville ouvrière italienne et se forme à Prima del Teatro, l’École européenne pour l’Art de l’Acteur. Dès sa première création en 2009, elle intègre les marionnettes à son art. Depuis 2013, elle explore les thématiques de l’indépendance et de la résistance féminine. En 2020, elle est retenue pour Chantiers d’Europe organisé par le Théâtre de la Ville. Depuis 2022, elle est artiste associée au Piccolo Teatro à Milan.

Marta Cuscunà was born in Monfalcone, a small Italian working-class town. She studied at Prima del Teatro, the European School for the Art of the Actor, and incorporated puppets into her art from the time of her first production in 2009. Since 2013, she has been exploring the themes of female independence and resistance. In 2020, she was selected for the ‘Chantiers d’Europe’ project at the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, and since 2022 she has been associate artist at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan.
